President Report: Teacher Appreciation Week: We received a lot of wonderful thank you notes from all the teachers and staff for a great week! Thank you's: Thank you to Brindall and her kids for great games at the Lawn Fete, the Raffle committee, Jeff for coming through with all the food and all the volunteers that made it a great evening of fun! Environmental School: We made our goal!

Principals Report: Thank you's: Tara for another great newsletter! The NFS Literary Magazine was published and being sent home. The Lawn Fete was great! The Artist in Residence was a great success and fun to watch the kids all fly the kites on the last day. Math Enrichment Programs: They were a great success. Would like to see it in the future. School Wide Teaching and Learning Team: Thank you to Tara and Tammy for participating on this Team for the past 2 years. There are now 2 open positions if there is any interest, please see me. New School Year: Placement letters will be going out sometime in mid July. Some teacher changes are as follows: Remsen to Grade 4; Needham to Grade 3; Keil to Grade 2; Bates & Randall to Grade 1; New Kindergarten teacher, Amy Spivak. Student Council: The students donated $500 from the school store sales towards the Environmental School fund.
Committee Reports/Old Business: Lawn Fete: Changes for next year... Krissy Jackson would like to run it next year. Bob Ford is interested in helping with the food, maybe get the 5th graders to help out, have it on a Friday night?

Spelling bee/Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast: Thank you to all the participants. Thank you for Brindall coming up with the fabulous idea! It was a lot of fun. the 1st Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast was very successful and it was good to see a lot of people. Environmental School update: Currently collection cookie dough orders. Filled out a grant yesterday with the Portsmouth Garden Club.

Principals Report: Kindergarten Registration: Scheduled for May 8 & 9 – 7:45am – 10:45am. We are still in need of a few volunteers to greet and help with paperwork. Grade 4 Science assessment: There is a new State wide piot test for Science assessments. There will be 2 sessions of 90 minutes each on 5/21 & 5/22. Please make sure your children are in school and well rested. Full Day Kindergarten: There will be a school budget meeting with all Principals in attendance at the next City Council meeting. It will be broadcast at 6:30pm on Channel 22. Yearbook: Forms going out next week.

President Report: Thank you’s: Christi McKittrick on a very successful and fun Pizza/Movie night! Also to Mary Chavez for the Environmental School Rollerskating night that raised another $234.10! Elections: Elections for PTO will be held at next months meeting. We are in search of a Volunteer Coordinator, Treasurer and Vice President. Teacher Grants: 2 Grants applied for as follows: 1. Writing Units of study books for the 4th grade. 2. Digital Camera and accessories for the 5th grade. Motion passed and grants accepted. Middle School Discussion for May: Guest speakers at next month’s meeting to be Bob Lister, John Stokel, Nancy Clayburgh. Meeting to start at 6:30pm to discuss the Middle School situation. Environmental School Fund raising: School received $1K from Walmart and motion was passed to let it go towards Environmental School for next year. Currently have $2536.20 and need $4K. A few more fundraisers coming up including a Cookie Dough sale. Student Literary Magazine: We are in need of help with scanning, typing and copying everyone’s stories/artwork for publishing this student magazine. Can be done on-site at the school or at home.

AIR: Ron King will be starting May 14th and culminating the Friday of the following week (May 25). We are in need of some supplies to help him out. Please see either myself or Mrs. Shea. Math Enrichment Programs: Programs are going well. April 17th is the start of 3rd & 4th grade session. Yearbook: Students having fun with it. Deadline is next Thursday. Fun Day: Scheduled for June 7th. If you would like to help out with this, see Mr. Lendrum or myself. Just a fun day for the kids. Only lasts until lunch times. Student Showcase: May 17th is the Spring Student Showcase. Gary The Clown: Our final day with Gary the Clown was featured on Channel 6’s show, “207”. Trying to get it put into digital format.

President Report: Environmental School Fund Raising: $927 raised so far. $89 from ice Cream Social. We will be selling NFS sweatshirts and will be having another skating night on 3/28 @6pm. Ice Cream Social: Thank you Mary!! Thank you Tom Koz!! $487.04 profit! A fun night. Teacher Grants: The deadline for the (2) $250 grants is 3/31. We have 2 applications so far and will vote @ next months meeting. Treasurer's Report:

Principals Report: Basketball uniforms: The Portsmouth Athletic Department is no longer funding elementary school uniforms. The boys and girls both had great seasons! Kindergarten Registration: Scheduled for May 8 & 9 – 7:45am – 10:45am. We are in need of a few volunteers to greet and help with paperwork. AIR: Ron King will be starting May 14th and culminating the Friday of the following week (May 25). His price went up but we negotiated for $400/day for 8 days. Math Enrichment Programs: the programs started for the 5th, 1st & 2nd grades and is going great. Forgot to budget $$ for snacks! Manners Week: Manners Week is here and the school has been practicing manners.
Committee Reports/Old Business: Craft Fair: The meeting with Outback didn’t happen as scheduled, Brindall to call and reschedule. Teacher Rep: Mrs. Bates said that the rollerskating night was fun and is looking forward to the next skating night! Title One/Potluck Movie Night: Date of March 15th. The movie will be Hoot! and there will be pizza. It is to start at 6pm, not 4:30 as indicated on the school calendar. Reminders will go out next week. Need some volunteers to help the night of. Volunteer appreciation Event: A volunteer Breakfast is scheduled for April 12. BJ’s will provide the food! Invitations will go out shortly. NFS Cookbook: Brindall has collected about 40 recipes so far for a New Franklin Cookbook fundraiser. Looking for 150 before April vacation! Please send in your recipes! Spelling Bee: Scheduled for April 19th. Trying to make it a fun night..music, jokes, prizes. Looking for teacher involvement! Adults on stage as the kids watch.
New Business: Teacher Appreciation Week: Scheduled for May 7-11. More info to come! Secretary’s Day/Nurse’s Day: Last year we gave Mrs. Lister and Mrs. Pamboukes flowers after vacation. Officially, these holidays fall during school vacation. Motion made and passed to spend up to $40 per person (not necessarily flowers…maybe something chocolate?!) this year.

President Report: Environmental School Fund Raising: American Lung Assoc. Fun Passes sold 26 @$130 profit with $520 going to Amer. Lung Assoc..
Rollerskating night took in $352 in profit with 261 people attending! Another night is being planned for end or March. There will be a valentine kisses fundraiser for Valentine's Day. Ice Cream Social: Tom Koz to DJ with a Hawaiian Luau theme on February 22nd, 6:30 - 7:30pm. Woodbury Ave. Petition: Entrance and Egress a problem! City shares concern with us. The City's Safety Engineer says that it will be fixed in 2010. That is too long to wait. Would like to form a committee and get a petition together with staff, teachers, parents, neighbors to get an interim fix. Katie Baucke (NFS parent and neighbor) is spearheading. Teacher Grant Survey: An email will went out to the teachers with a deadline to respond of 3/31. We will look at applications at the April meeting. Public Advocacy for Parents Workshop: Scheduled for Feb. 12th @PHS from 4:30-7:30pm. Anyone can attend. $10 with light dinner served.
Treasurer's Report:
$24,968.02 is the balance in our account. Expenses allocated for the rest of the year is just under $12K.
Principals Report: Thank You: Thank you to Tara for a great newsletter! It is a nice blend of a community periodical. NECAP: Scores are in. Will get individual scores soon. Overview: Reading up, writing up, math down. Job Opening: Bookkeeper in our cafeteria from 7am - 1pm. Job posted on bulleting board outside of office.
Memory Book Team: A Memory Book Team has been assembled and comprised of 10 students who will work with Mrs. Shea.
Committee Reports/Old Business: Craft Fair: Brindall spoke to CJ @ The Outback and they agreed to do the food for us. Meeting set up for 2/19 @1pm to go over details. Brindall and Ilysse to go. Teacher Rep: Mrs. Bates said that the rollerskating night was fun and wondered if we can do anything about transportation for the people that cannot attend on their own. Mr. Lendrum stated that the Safety Patrol is bigger than ever this year - 19 kids. Just a heads up for the annual Water Country trip sponsored by the PTO. Title One/Potluck Movie Night: Date of March 15th. The movie will be Hoot! and there will be pizza. Volunteer appreciation Event: Scheduled for April. Pam and Brindall to organize. NFS Cookbook: Brindall is starting to compile recipes together for a New Franklin Cookbook fundraiser. Notice will go out this week.
New Business: Math Enrichment Program: PTO has excess $ and at the Budget meeting PTO came up with an idea to have 2 programs for a Math Enrichment course. 1&2nd grades and 3-5th grades. $3200 is the estimate that will include a teacher and materials. Motion passed to accept program. Parent/Teacher Spelling Bee: Brindall Grant to organize. Will hold sometime in April. Basketball Team Trophies: Allison O'Malley requested the money raised at basketball bake sale go toward trophies for the teams. PTO voted for the $243 to be split evenly between the boys and girls' team to be used as they see fit to commemorate their seasons. Boys Basketball Uniforms: The boys basketball team is requesting new uniforms. Old uniforms in very bad shape. coach Lendrum says they are too big and should only be a single color and not reversible.

President Report: Environmental School Fund Raising: Raffle went well for school concert! We are sellling American Lung Assoc. Children's Fun Pass @ $5 book ($25 each to sell) due by Feb. 2nd.
There will be a rollerskating night January 31st. We need at least 82 people to make $$. Please put it on your calendar. Ice Cream Social: Date will be February 22nd, 6:30 - 7:30pm. Sweatshirts: We will be selling sweatshirts again since there has been a lot of inquiries about it. Teacher Grant Survey: An email will go out in February to the teachers. American Girl Fashion Show: Will not happen this year because the Concord group is doing it.

Principals Report: RIF Program: Distribution went great! AIR: Ron King was selected to be our Artist in Residence. He is a kite maker. He will help the children build kites and do
a lot with aerodynamics. May 7-18, 2007. Bus Dismissal: A new bus dismissal routine will not be in effect. The feedback from the kids was not positive.

President Report: Environmental School Fund Raising: We need to raise $4K for the 5th Grade trip to Odiorne. There will be an Atlantic Gym fundraiser for the
Jaunuary session. We get $27 for each sign up! Another idea: Children's Fun Pass @ $5 book ($25 each to sell) or a rollerskating night... we need
some volunteers from the current 4th grade class to help. Teacher Breakfast/Lunch: Betsy Pearl is coordinating this. Anyone intersted in helping, please see Betsy. Thank You's: Thank you to the bakers for the Election Day Bake Sale and the people who helped with the Craft Fair! Principals Report: RIF Program: There are upper grades' book groups currently happening and will culminate on the 22nd with the RIF distribution and assembly. AIR: 10 candidates are down to 3: a filmmaker, felt maker/mathematician and kite maker. Bus Dismissal: A new bus dismissal routine will be tried out to see if it impacts time. Chess Club: Started Chess Club with Ms. Randall and had an overwhelming response! We are adding more help. Holiday Concerts: Scheduled for 12/20, still working on sound system.

Principals Report:
Mr. Shea is acting Substitute Coach for the 5th Grade Soccer game this evening. Pam read his notes: Security: Taking a closer look at several new security options. 1. Magnetic lock on door, maybe windows 2. Any suggestions, please talk to George about. AIR: There was a meeting with Mrs. Frazier, Mrs. Shea, George, Amy Brngr and they came up with a list of 10 candidates. Will keep everyone posted. BJ's: Valerie wants kids to do a banner. The 1st grade is working on it to hang in the BJ's store.
Committee Reports/Old Business: Craft Fair: 11/3 is pie baking party at Jeannette MacDonald's home. We will bake, freeze and cook pies at a later date. Craft Fair Tree Raffle: Didn't get the response/donations we were hoping for. Anyone still interested in contributing, please see Ilysse. Wrapping Paper: $5900! Samantha will need help on 11/15 to distribute and sort.
New Business: RIF: Mary Ann Driscoll needs some volunteers to help put together a 'celebrate literacy program'. Characters as Friends is theme.
Looking to set up a Book Room with multiple copies of books. Need volunteers to help organize book room and checkout system. PEP Home Tour: Jen Nealon working on. Need sponsorships! It will be on 12/10, $15 in advance, $18 day of. If you want to volunteer for

President Report: By-Laws: New PTO by-laws were passed out and voted on to pass. Volunteer Book: All of the parent volunteer forms have been catagorized and put into a big book kept in the NFS office.
Great for Committee Chairs, Teachers,etc. to call upon parents willing to help with different projects. PEP/Holiday Home Tour: PEP raised $900 at Flatbread fundraiser! PEP classes to start on 10/23. Holiday Home Tour
scheduled for 12/10, 4-8pm. Still need some homes for the tour!! See Jennifer Nealon if you would like to volunteer as well. Hannaford Helps Schools: When you purchase four (4) participating products, you receive one $3.00 school dollar certificate

Principals Report: NECAP: NECAP testing started today. Thank you: to Tara Mikela for the upcoming newsletter. A lot of work goes into this and it comes out really great! Gary the Clown: Scheduled for 3/19 - 3/30/07. Title I: Forming a parent advisory board. We are well represented at the first meeting. Reading Incentive Program: (All Star Reader) Looking at other ways to implement the program, i.e., short term program(s), programs
around themes, connected to RIF. Open House: Open House went well. I am looking for some feedback, i.e., kids/no kids? More time to meet with extra curriculum
teachers? Please call/email me with your thoughts. Parent/Teacher Conference: Scheduled for 12/8/06, in conjunction with the 1st report card. It will be done in Trimeters this year
Committee Reports/Old Business: Craft Fair: Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11th. We are responsible for the bake table, food table, raffle and lunch breaks. Joyce will
give us $1,000 for the use of our name at the High School. We will be doing a pie making night and selling frozen pies. There will be an
organizational meeting 10/12 @ 9:30am at the Pine Street Park. This is the best group ever! Come and join the fun! Notice will go up in Teachers Lounge
soon. Book Fair: Was extremely successful this year! $3,486.40 in total sales; $2,091.84 total book profit. Brindall Grant will be stepping down and is looking for a new parent rep. She is more
than happy to train someone for the position. You can delegate and have volunteers work most of it. Please see Brindall for more details. Wrapping paper fund raiser: Orders due 10/10. Will be delivered to us either 11/7 or 11/14. Will need volunteers to help distribute.
New Business: Artist in Residence: We need people for a committee to help pick an Artist that helps work with kids for 1 week in the Spring.
Need parent/teacher to help. A lot of computer work. 1-2 meetings. Decision by December for the Artist. Election Day Bake Sale: Need a coordinator to send out a notice and coordinate volunteers to bake. Sale is November 7th during school hours.

Treasurer's Report:
There was a proposed budget meeting over the summer with the officers and Principal. Proposed budget is available for anyone to see.
President Report: Kindergarten Orientation: Thank you for the help in welcoming new students and parents. By-Laws: Pam wrote the by-laws and will vote on it next month and then have them put online. BJ's Wholesale Adopt a School Program: Valerie from BJ's will be helping us at various events. BJ's will be donating
items to our events. There will be a membership drive that starts next month. Teacher Grants: for special items in classrooms. PTO sent a notice in June and had 2 responses: Patti Carr for a listening center
and Linda Beal for books for beginning readers.
Principals Report:
Thanks for coming out this evening and supporting the PTO. PTO is a valuable part of the school community and these are a great and motivated group
of people! The school year is off to a good start. We have 287 children enrolled at NFS. Open House: Scheduled for September 28th. Environmental Camp: Next week the 5th graders are off to Environmental Camp which includes tidepooling, salt water activities, etc.
Thank you to Jeannette MacDonald for fund raising $9,000 this year. The District kicks in $1200, school store contributed $800. School Wide Teaching & Learning Committee: Staff, Administrators & Parents. A 2 year term. Nominations go out next week. New Employees: There were a few new employees hired that were not on my letter home during the summer. They are: Lyn Hennigar: Kindergarten

Set to air on NH Outlook on 9/19 @ 7:30pm and 9/24 @ 9am Soccer: There are 35 kids signed up to play soccer. They will be split in 2 teams. We really need a soccer coach!
Committee Reports/Old Business: Craft Fair: Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11th. We are responsible for the bake table, food table, raffle and lunch breaks. Joyce will
give us $1,000 for the use of our name at the High School. We will be doing a pie making night and selling frozen pies. There will be an
organizational meeting 9/19 @ 9am at the Pine Street Park. Book Fair: Sept 21-28. 1am-3pm. There will be a Teacher Preview 9/20 for wish lists. Will be open for Early Release Day in the morning. Hood Red Sox Tops: This is a fund raiser where we get 5 cents for every milk top we submit. We have till the end of Oct. If our school has
the highest percentage ratio we will receive a visit from the Boston Red Sox! The tops do not necessarily have to have the Red Sox logo but do have to
say Light Block bottle.
New Business: PEP: Portsmouth Education Programs. We fund the after school enrichment programs K-5 for all 3 schools. We need teachers!
The Home Holiday Tour will be starting soon and we need homes! Also, we are having a Flatbread Pizza fund raiser 9/19, 5-8pm Volunteer Coordinators: Samantha LeBlanc and Mary Chavez. They are compiling info into a big book for future use. Send in those forms! Wrapping paper fund raiser: Starts September 14th. Excellent quality wrapping paper. This is one of our biggest fund raisers.
