Fast approaching is one of Portsmouth's favorite traditions - Fairy House Tours - which takes place the weekend of September 23rd and 24th. Once again, NFS is participating, which means your child and their classmates will soon be busy bees building their classroom fairy houses that will be on display at Prescott Park. This has always been a fun, creative event to help kick off the new school year, and we need some helping hands to make sure it goes off without a hitch!
Here are the various ways you can volunteer:
First, do you have an imaginative child that likes the outdoors—one that likes scavenging for acorns, twigs, bark, rocks and seashells? Well, then we have a perfect activity for you to incorporate into this upcoming long, holiday weekend! Grab a basket or bag, go outside and start collecting anything and everything – natural objects only though – that could be used to build a fairy house. Think of twigs to build windows, and bark to build a roof, and rocks to build a staircase. Be as creative as possible as you scavenge for unique objects found in nature. Then, send those objects into your child’s classroom so they can get a head start on building their house!
Second, if you are skilled in transporting delicate objects, this next opportunity is for you! We need some helping hands to transport the houses to Prescott Park on Friday, September 22nd, and then back to school again on Sunday, September 24th. You don’t need to commit to both drop off and pick up - unless you want to of course! We need 8 volunteers (with cars) total. So, 4 for Friday and 4 for Sunday. Please consider this SUPER EASY way to help out!
The most fun and best way to volunteer is at the fairy house tour event itself. And you can bring your kids! If you like blowing bubbles, taking pictures or face painting, or just volunteering in general, as part of NFS's annual participation in this event, we have been asked to provide a few volunteers to serve 2-hour shifts anytime over the event weekend. This can be done on either Saturday and/or Sunday.
Oh, and one last thing! The NFS PTO gets donations for advance ticket purchases ONLY, so please buy your tickets ASAP, and don’t forget to click the box for New Franklin at check out.
As always, the NFS PTO appreciates your support!
